8 paintings travel to RENO, NV

After a one-month home residency, I’m ready for the big show in Reno, Nevada, and sending 8 big paintings there. Two by Land is a dual exhibit I’m sharing with artist Katherine Sandoz, happening at the Sheppard Gallery at the University of Nevada Reno, April 2nd – April 26th, 2013.

Here’s a sneak peak at what’s traveling to Reno:

Four new paintings

After 5 intense weeks in the studio, I have 4 new paintings (mostly finished, I think) in a series titled “First Story of the Flood, I – IV”. Actually they’re titled First Telling, Second Telling, Third Telling and Fourth Telling.

There’s definitely a strong interest in the role of narrative, collective memory, and appropriation of narrative / memory in the building of self-identity.

Enjoy!

Art in the Open, May 18-20th, 2012

I spent 3 gloriously sunny days outside along the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia for the Art in the Open festival. Here are photos of the progress of my piece, and I will add more photos as the “Sun Stone” begins its slow collapse back into the earth. The whole process will take about 6 weeks.

Documentation and excerpts of this piece will be on view at the Independence Seaport Museum June 14th – Sept. 9th, 2012.

Masks for The Diviners

These are the masks I was working on all spring (2012) for a dance choreographed by Jillian Harris-Farrell at Temple University. Based on Dante’s Inferno and the punishment of the Diviners, these masks are designed for the performer to wear as a hat, with the visage facing backwards as the dancer performs with their back to the audience, giving the impression that the head is spun around backwards. All masks are papier mache and acrylic paint.
